Incheon National University Pilots “1,000-Won Dinner” During Midterm Exam Period
Incheon National University and the Student Union are launching a pilot program called “1,000-Won Dinner” during the midterm exam period to support students who stay on campus late to study. This initiative expands upon the existing “1,000-Won Breakfast” program and aims to reduce students' meal expenses while providing a more stable learning environment through practical welfare support.
The university’s “1,000-Won Breakfast” program has not only promoted a healthy breakfast culture among college students but has also become a student-centered welfare policy tailored to meet the needs of students during times of high inflation. This year, INU was selected to participate in the 2024 1,000-Won Breakfast Program, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. In addition, INU also takes part in the Incheon-Type 1,000-Won Breakfast Program led by the Incheon Metropolitan Government, providing high-quality breakfasts to students.
The new “1,000-Won Dinner” initiative, launched by the Student Union as a welfare program, allows up to 250 students per day to enjoy a warm dinner at the campus cafeteria for just 1,000 KRW, from Monday, April 14 to Friday, April 18. A total of 1,250 students will benefit from this program during the trial period.
The program will feature a variety of menu options including nutritious set meals with four or more side dishes, as well as rice porridge and bread using healthy ingredients like rice. In addition, a variety of student engagement events will be held to bring moments of joy to students tired from exam preparations.
Lee Ji-min, Vice President of the Student Union, stated, “The ‘1,000-Won Dinner’ is more than just a meal—it’s a welfare initiative designed to provide practical support to students who are immersed in their studies late into the night during exams. Going forward, we will continue to discover and expand welfare programs that directly impact students’ daily lives.”
